Summer-Proof Your Salon
Prevent Lifting and Retention Issues During Hot Weather ☀️
Summer is just around the corner, bringing busy appointment books, vibrant seasonal colours and clients preparing for holidays and sunny days. But warmer temperatures can also create additional challenges in the salon. Products may become thinner, clients tend to perspire more and the risk of lifting or retention issues can increase.
Fortunately, a few simple adjustments to your workflow can help you prevent many common summer nail problems and ensure your clients enjoy beautiful nails for longer.
Keep Your Salon and Products Cool
Heat affects both your comfort and the performance of your products.
Whenever possible, keep your salon temperature between 20°C and 24°C. Avoid placing products in direct sunlight and keep your workspace protected from excessive heat.
If you use a fan, avoid pointing it directly at your workstation. This can increase dust circulation and may cause certain products to react or cure too quickly.
For builder gels and thicker products, storing them in a cool environment can help maintain a more stable consistency and easier application.
Perfect Preparation Starts with a Dry Nail Plate
During warmer weather, clients often experience increased moisture and natural oils on the nail plate. Proper preparation becomes even more important.
Ask clients to wash their hands with cool water and dry them thoroughly before the treatment. Carefully cleanse and dehydrate the nail plate using Prep & Wipe or a suitable cleanser.
Use a gentle scrubbing motion with a nail wipe to effectively remove oils, moisture and residue. For clients with naturally oily or moist nails, a dehydrator before primer can significantly improve adhesion.
When performing a combination manicure, work with extra care. Warm and hydrated skin can be more sensitive and prone to damage.
Prevent Lifting During Summer
Higher temperatures require additional attention when applying artificial nails.
Work in thin layers for better product control and check carefully that no skin residue remains around the cuticle area before application.
Because products can flow more easily in warm conditions, working nail by nail often delivers better results than applying product to multiple nails at once.
Also remove excess natural nail from underneath the free edge to improve overall adhesion.
Remember: lifting is often caused not by the product itself, but by the combination of heat, perspiration and insufficient nail preparation.
Create Extra Comfort for Your Clients
A comfortable salon experience makes all the difference.
Offer clients a glass of water on warm days and, when possible, schedule appointments during cooler morning hours. This can help reduce excessive perspiration during treatments.
It's also helpful to remind clients that sunscreen can leave residue on the skin and nails, making additional cleansing necessary before treatment.
Share These Summer Aftercare Tips
Help your clients keep their nails looking beautiful throughout the holiday season.
Recommend daily cuticle oil to nourish and protect both the nails and surrounding skin. For maximum hydration, encourage clients to apply oil underneath the free edge as well.
After swimming in chlorinated or salt water, clients should rinse their hands thoroughly to minimise dryness.
Remind them not to use their nails as tools during holidays, DIY projects or outdoor activities.
If an enhancement becomes loose, clients should never attempt to glue it back themselves. Instead, they should contact the salon for professional advice and repair.
Small Adjustments, Big Results
By paying extra attention to preparation, application and aftercare during warmer months, you can prevent common summer issues such as lifting and adhesion loss.
These simple adjustments help ensure your treatments remain flawless throughout the season and leave your clients with beautiful, long-lasting results every time.
